The Back Story

I was introduced to small business coaching in 1995, when I was invited to join the celebrated small business guru and entrepreneurial wizard, Michael E. Gerber, in his business coaching practice. Michael was, as far as I can tell, the world’s best-known coach, innovator of coaching processes that were unknown to the world of coaching until he invented them, and author of the world’s best book on small business entrepreneurship, The E-Myth; Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work, and What to Do About It (the all-time best-selling book on the subject according to the Wall Street Journal, and still a perennial best-seller).

I joined Michael’s business temporarily, as an outside consultant, to give him an objective analysis of the performance of his coaching company. I ended up staying with him for the next five years, soaking up his entrepreneurial wisdom, and helping convert it into practices that could be used by any coach, anywhere, to guide small business entrepreneurs to success. I was responsible for converting Michael’s many decades of hard-won wisdom into a programmed, from-A-to-Z business coaching methodology. We called it the “E-Myth Mastery Program” and it set the standard for small business coaching around the world until 2005, when Michael decided to close his coaching business and turn to other forms of coaching and entrepreneurial development.

Some of Michael’s Master Coaches wanted to continue their coaching practices, and they approached me to develop a completely new, and far superior coaching program. So, that’s what I did. But, by this time, I had added a deep understanding of cognitive science to my knowledge base, which enabled me to develop a new coaching program that leap-frogged anything else in the market. Leading edge? You bet, and it still is. We call it the Full Spectrum Business Development Program.

To manage the effort, I teamed up with long-time Master Business Coach, Don Farnden, and we created a company called Full Spectrum Associates. Don, the CEO, is my most trusted associate and friend. He manages the company from Adelaide, Australia and oversees coach training and development (which is the heartbeat of the business). I serve as founder and Chairman, and, although I’m semi-retired, my blood still runs in the veins of the company.
